POSITION OVERVIEW

Ecology Action is seeking a Program Coordinator (I or II depending on experience) to join our Transportation Planning team as we improve safety for people walking and biking in Santa Cruz and Monterey Counties. The Program Coordinator will assist with outreach for multiple planning efforts, including an Active Transportation Plan for the City of Salinas, a Safe Routes to Schools Plan for Salinas Valley communities, and an Active Transportation Plan for the City of Santa Cruz. Work will be performed both in-person and virtually. Local candidates based in Salinas, the Salinas Valley, or Santa Cruz are strongly encouraged to apply.


POSITION SUMMARY

Ecology Action seeks a team-oriented, Spanish-speaking, positive, motivated, flexible, and highly organized individual to fill the Program Coordinator position. The successful candidate must be passionate about engaging with community members and able to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic work setting.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implement all aspects of in-field programming with an emphasis on customer service and satisfaction.
  • Conduct outreach in English and Spanish with diverse community members including individuals, parents, school staff, businesses, community groups, and public agencies.
  • Assist with outreach and implementation of school-based pop-up bike/pedestrian traffic safety infrastructure demonstration projects.
  • Assist with outreach event coordination, including tabling opportunities at existing events and coordination of public workshops.
  • Gather public comments and survey responses through a variety of venues.
  • Contribute to content and messaging translation for a Spanish speaking audience.
  • Provide in-field support and guidance to program volunteers, interns and service learners.
  • Support grant contract implementation and reporting, including photo/video documentation, deliverable/metric tracking, and collecting testimonials.
  • Support program evaluation through in-field data collection.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma
  • Experience independently implementing projects
  • Experience working in an education and/or outreach setting
  • Experience with community engagement
  • Bilingual Spanish speaker
  • Ability to work effectively independently with minimal supervision.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Reliable program implementer who is flexible, able to make sound decisions, work independently and think on their feet.
  • Detail oriented, organized, able to appropriately prioritize tasks and meet all deadlines.
  • Exceptional communicator able to proactively and effectively engage a variety of community stakeholders to achieve program goals, while also effectively representing Ecology Action.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook)
  • Valid driver license, proof of minimum required insurance and reliable transportation

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with event organizing.
  • Experience with or knowledge of urban planning, especially bicycle and pedestrian or safe routes to schools planning.
  • Experience working with school communities, including administrators, teachers, parents, and students.
