Since April 22, 1970, our nation's first Earth Day, we began to address our community's environmental problems. We design effective programs, successfully activate communities, forge mutually beneficial partnerships, and influence policy to advance equitable, climate-smart initiatives. Our focus is on the most pressing issue for a thriving future: reducing carbon emissions. Since our launch, we have grown into an industry leader that empowers individuals and organizations to make positive changes for a healthier, more equitable low-carbon future.

We have created a collaborative and inclusive work environment that is based on transparency around our business initiatives and progress. Our valued employees enjoy great benefits and the opportunity to be part of our mission to positively impact our environment!

As a Bilingual Youth Instructor / Program Coordinator, you play an essential role in one of our flagship programs that reflects the heart of our organization. You lead our comprehensive school-based youth bicycle and pedestrian safety education programs, Bike Smart and Walk Smart. You effectively collaborate with school principals, teachers, and administrative staff to schedule and plan events. To make sure each presentation, bike "rodeo", and walk-around-the-block field trip is a success, you prepare and gather all of the needed materials, including paperwork, bicycles, helmets, wooden stop signs and cars, and safety cones.

The energy and excitement of the kids you meet are contagious, and you tap into that energy to engage the students and encourage participation as you lead in-class presentations or assemblies. Your ability to manage a group of rambunctious kids is one of your greatest tools. Especially while you conduct on-bike safety training outside on the school blacktop and lead walking field trips in the area around the school.

You also use those skills to assist with the management of staff, student interns, and volunteers. In addition, you grade student pre- and post-presentation evaluations as well as set up and break down obstacle courses. Each week consists of spending a couple of days in the office while you schedule, coordinate, and track data. The rest of the week you spend at different schools teaching the kids, both in the classroom and outside for practical sessions. You love being surrounded by cute little kiddos and everything that brings, including hearing their sweet random ramblings, receiving hugs, and seeing the cool new dance moves they like. But nothing compares to the feeling of pride you get from watching them learn new skills, and knowing that your lessons help them to stay safe when walking and biking around their neighborhoods!

  • 2+ years of experience in a youth education or teaching role
  • Fluent in Spanish and English
  • Experience with community outreach and education
  • Experience working in an office setting
  • Excellent classroom management skills
  • Ability to convey and foster enthusiasm to get students excited about biking or walking safely
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Valid California Class C driver's license, a reliable personal vehicle, and current automobile insurance

A bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred but not required. Four years of teaching experience and experience scheduling with multiple agencies would be a plus.

Are you self-motivated, professional, helpful, and positive? Do you have excellent communication and organizational skills? Can you effectively prioritize multiple tasks and manage your time well? Are you a fast learner? If so, you might just be perfect for this community outreach and education position!

This full-time community outreach position typically works 40 hours per week. Events may take place between 6 am and 4 pm on weekdays as well as occasional weekends or evenings.

We understand your time is valuable, so we have a very quick and easy application process. If you feel that you would be right for this Bilingual Youth Instructor / Program Coordinator job, please fill out our initial 3-minute, mobile-friendly application. We look forward to meeting you!
